WINGHAM RSL sub-branch president, Darren Robinson is calling for help to find lost RSL honour rolls.
Darren said that when schools, churches and town halls close down in small communities the RSL often loses track of the honour rolls that would have been housed there.
"They could be anywhere," said Darren who admits he is searching for an unknown number of honour rolls dating as far back as 100 years. Many small communities in our region have undergone changes through the decades and the historical significance of the honour rolls may have been missed when buildings changed hands or were pulled down."
With the centenary anniversaries coming up of WW1 (2014 - 2018) and Anzac (2015), Darren said now is a good time to retrieve the honour rolls. The RSL would like to have the returned honour rolls professionally restored.
"We would really like to give them back to the community," Darren said.
