I DIDN'T think I would be saying this, but, we could do with a drop of rain or two.

Just a little bit though. On the other hand, how good is this weather? Brilliant sunshine combined with cool, crispy nights.
Saturday Competition
Onto the golf and last Saturday was the semi-finals of the two fourball best ball knockouts. Firstly the Gary Croucher Fencing event and the finalists for next Saturday are the man himself, Gary Croucher and his partner, Neville Boyd who are down to play the two 'schoolies', Rohan Abbott and Jim Weeks. These two pairs won their matches over the "Queensland" sides, to enter the final. In the other consolation Tezza Entertainment knockout for the "losers", the finalists are David Blair and Adrian Yeo and Syd Gilfillan and Jim Bradshaw. Both matches should be interesting and good luck to all concerned.
The individual competition Saturday was a stroke event, with veteran Terry Morris winning with a superb 67 nett. Grade nett winners were Geoff Swaffield, A grade with 71 nett, B grade to Gary Croucher 69 nett and C grade was won by Peter Tait with a 68. Scratch winners were Rohan Abbott A grade with 78, John Hynes B grade with 85 and Jim Bradshaw won C grade with an 88 'off the stick'. Balls went out to 74 nett, with Larry Thompson the lucky last winner.
Nearest to the pin winning shots were not up to their high standard, which was unusual considering the run on the course. However, Damian Keen managed one exceptional shot to win the 4th/13th All About Conveyancing hole and in doing so, also won the Caddies restaurant "Shot of the Day". Congratulations Damian. Other winners included David Blair on the 1st/10th Wingham Plaza Butchers hole, Jamie Greenaway the 3rd/12th hole, Earle Braham the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods hole and Craig Harrison on the Bent on Food 9th/18th.
Wednesday Veterans
Forty six of the more mature golfers played a stableford for the Taree Challenge Wednesday. Scoring was quite unbelievable as the run on the day made most players 'good drivers' for a day. Would you believe Cec Pedron won the day with a massive 46 points in a close finish from Jim Bradshaw on 45 and Brian Wilson on 44.
Of the 46 players, 28 had 36 points or better. Worth a special mention is 94 year old Ian Morrow who managed 40 big points. Great scoring boys. Bill Osborne won the 3rd/12th ntp and Cec Pedron hit a "beauty" on the 7th/16th to win that ntp. Incidentally, Wingham won the challenge 42 to 37.
Thursday LJ Hooker Chook Run
Bill Cooper was the star of Thursday golf this week with 25 points, a clear four shot winner from John Halpin on 21. John in turn won on a countback from an unlucky Sharon Juozaitis. Craig Harrison was the 3rd hole ntp winner as was Matt Brislane on the 7th.
Friday Ladies
Another good turnout of Friday Ladies resulted in a win on a countbak to Sharon Juozitis. Sharon won from Jacky Robson followed by Bev Bisby, Sue Bartz, Pat Marcus, Gay Wagener, Debbie Stewart and Cheryl Andrews. Nearest to the pin winner was Robyn Dudgeon and Bronwyn Jarvis was the best of the long markers.
Coming Events
The highlight this week is the final of the fourball knockouts and best wishes to all eight players. The individual event is a stableford. One other highlight of the yearly calendar is the Mixed Foursomes event, this year scheduled for Sunday the 15th of September. It will be a 27 hole stroke event so get your name down. Also, speaking of highlights, a special mention must go to "Captain and Tennille" from Caddies restaurant, who celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary this past week holidaying in "Antarctica", where the female was the only one brave enough to enter the water. Good luck and good golfing.
