FORTY two bowlers filled the greens at Wingham Bowling Club for the first round of the triples championship.
Highlight of the day was the game between the teams of Bill Leadbeater, Peter Brown and Chris Kane against Barry Kershaw, Peter Wilson and Greg Bartlett.
The umpire was called on the 25th end to measure, with result requiring an extra end. The extra end also required the umpire who, after a few minutes of measuring, gave the result in favour of Chris Kane’s team.
Another close result had the team of Robert Allen, Peter Holden and Col Carter holding a one shot advantage over John Hones, Col Watson and Jake Hinton going to the final end, and with the last bowl to be played and holding shot, Jake drew the winning bowl.
Snow Trenchard teamed with son Rod and Trenton Spriggs, and with singles on the final two ends had a narrow win against Peter Kriss, Rod and Hunter Payton 18-16.
David O’Donnell with Mark and Dally Hammond went down in a close match, 26-23 to the strong combination of Tor Proctor, Laurie Mullen and Tom Moore.
The fourth father and son combination of Peter and Brian Williams along with Col Hinton proved to consistent for Alan Cox, Howie Snelson and John Black, winning 31-14.
On other rinks, George Floyd, Greg Murray and Rex Dawson were too good for Rex Thomas, Tony Baker and Ian Scarr 25-15 and Mick Hollebone, Gary Williams and Daniel Leadbeater proved a good combination winning 30-16 over the strong team of Paul Swan Glenn Dennes and Graeme Ireland.
Next round will be held on August 17.
Dad’s Army overall winners were Jake Kennett, Greg Bartlett and Col Hinton, with a plus 18 margin.
Runners up were Mick Hollebone, Eric Weir and Daniel Leadbeater. Brian Williams led his team of Guy Watts and Rex Thomas into third place.
Friday mixed saw Lillian Cross and Ron Lollback the winners with a 12 shot margin.
Runners up were Judy Stone and Guy Watts. Other winners were Laurelle Dennes with George Floyd and Narrelle Foy with Mal Cannon. Lucky card winners were Janet Nash and David Gosling.
The final of the Milton and Lorraine Sky minors singles championship will be held this Saturday between Alan Cox and Daniel Leadbeater and should produce a great spectacle. Please come along and support the players.
