FRESH from completing her preparatory course at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, violinist Linda Gilbert returns to her hometown this weekend to give a recital.
The 26-year-old, who has links to both Wingham and Taree, is in the middle of her NSW and Queensland tour and will give a performance at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Taree at 3pm this Sunday, accompanied by pianist Krzysztof Malek.
She said audiences have been responding very well to her program, which features pieces from Bach, Mozart, Wieniawski, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Bartok.
“It certainly is a mammoth program containing some of the cornerstones of the violin repertoire, for example the Mendelssohn is one of the best-loved violin concertos in the repertoire, the world over.
“I always enjoy performing a diverse program showing as many facets of violin technique that is also a selection of some of the greatest violin music written for the instrument, such as Brahms and Bach.
“I personally really admire the way Bach expressed his great genius in writing for both the violin as a solo and as an accompanied instrument.”
During her travels Linda has been making school visits and will also give a masterclass on the Central Coast on Monday.
At the completion of the tour Linda will return to Russia, where she will start her first year of undergraduate diploma at the prestigious conservatory.
To assist her studies, audience members will be invited at the conclusion of the recital to give a donation.
