The results are in for the Wingham CWA’s annual shortbread baking competition.
Run as part of the Bonnie Wingham Scottish Festival, the competition attracted entrants of a high calibre all vying for a coveted ribbon.
“It was a hard competition to judge,” said RAS judge Jac Hyde. “There were fewer entrants than last year, but quality was excellent.”
With 26 entries including a father and son and schoolchildren from a number of local schools, competition was bound to be tough.
But the question inevitably arises; does judge Jac really taste them all?
“Luckily it’s not jam, I don’t really like jam,” said Jac who did indeed taste test all the shortbread. I judge baking and flavour and it is important to know what the bottoms look like,” said Jac who insists on a closed room while judging takes place.
But the seriousness was only so the competition was fair.
Jac did not know the names of any of the entrants, nor what they look like while she judged alone.
Once she had chosen her winners the CWA doors were swung open and the community was warmly welcomed to come and buy the shortbread.
