WINGHAM Hockey Club played host to students from Wingham Public School, Wingham Brush Public School, St Joseph's Primary and Old Bar Public School for a gala day.
More than 170 students converged on the Taree Hockey Centre to attend the gala day which
was hosted by volunteers from the club with helpers from Wingham High School.
A spokesperson from the Wingham Hockey Club said that three years ago they decided to host the day for the Wingham schools because it felt that hockey did not have the profile that other sports had and many younger people did not know what the game was about. By introducing the students of Wingham to the game it was hoped that they would have a better understanding and maybe some would like to join a team. This year they were joined by students from Old Bar, many of who had never seen a game of hockey.
The club thanks Wingham Coaches and Eggins Coaches for subsidising the cost of the buses, the high school for allowing the students to help out on the day and all the other volunteers.
