ON Sunday a joint senior team from Wingham Football Club faced off against their first round draw Oxley-Vale Attunga Mushies, a Tamworth area football club.
The Mushies started off strong in the first 10 minutes however it was the Wingham Warriors who soon began to prevail creating chances on goal.
It wasn’t long before the Warriors put one in the back of the net thanks to Mitch Bevitt finding space down the middle and chipping the keeper.
Another goal quickly followed by Aaron Clarke who poached one from Dylan Cowie as his shot deflected off the keeper and the ball was placed delicately into the net by Aaron.
After half time the game saw some controversial calls by the referee seeing rowdy Beau French receive a yellow card.
Pre-season training proved to be successful as Wingham held out the tired opponents and won the game 2-0.
The club would like to thank all the players who arrived early before the game to set up the field and the families and friends that came to support.
Advancing through to the second round the Warriors will play on March 16 against a yet undecided team.
The club hopes to see the community support the team as it pushes for trophies and success to show that Wingham isn’t just some small country town.
