THE RSL Brush Day Club is back and running after the Christmas break providing entertainment, fun and companionship for many in the community.
The club has launched into its 26th year with Robyn Forbes taking on the role as co-ordinator in 2013.
Robyn has volunteered at the RSL day club for more than 20 years, with much of her time spent in the kitchen serving food to participants.
She looks forward to taking a bigger role with the group this year and hopes to have more people come along to and experience the club.
“I have well and truly seen the benefit the Day Club gives people. I’ve always seen the place full,” Robyn said.
Day Club visitors participate in gentle exercise, are treated to lunch and entertainment for a small fee.
The most valuable part of the day for many is the companionship they receive each week.
More than 20 volunteers ensure the Day Club runs each week and includes a range of talented performers.
Morning tea is served at 10am with lunch at noon. The day wraps up around 1.30pm.
The Day Club provides transport to and from the Masonic Hall in Wingham for people living in town.
One of the participants said she had been going to the RSL day club for years with her husband. After he passed away last year, the outing has become more important to her.
“I enjoy the companionship. It’s lonely at home by myself,” she said.
She encouraged others to join and come along as there are always new friends to meet.
