Wingham Rotary's Denis Robinson and Ron Hindmarsh get set for this year's Town and Country expo.
WINGHAM Rotary is gearing up for the Rotary Town and Country Expo, one of the biggest events on the group’s calendar.
The weekend of September 14 and 15 will be a hive of activity at Wingham Showground as hundred of exhibitors and community members join together in a celebration of town and country living.
This year rotary member, Denis Robinson will be at the helm of organisation and looks forward to a weekend which boasts new events that are hoped to build on last year’s success.
The Rotary Town and Country Expo is a not for profit event that not only looks to promote local business and lifestyle but raise funds for charity. This year the club has announced it sets out to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation as well as Prostate Cancer Foundation.
Denis’ family has been touched by breast cancer so he is pleased the expo will now direct funds towards research and support for patients.
“This year we’ve gone a step further and registered with the charities, not just donated.”
When expo time comes around Denis said the whole town works together.
Rotary thanks all the local businesses that support the work of the organisation at the expo and throughout the year.
He sees organising the huge weekend as a challenge but he enjoys putting on the event because it brings people to town while giving locals a look at what’s on offer.
This year the addition of a classic car display and a quad bike demonstration is sure to bring people through the gates. A full schedule of entertainers, post splitting race and hundreds of engaging displays and stalls will have people staying for a good time.
All funds raised from the weekend go towards the charities and helps others in the community.
Wingham Rotary has a range of projects it runs in the broader community that benefits thousands.
These include The Men’s Shed, RYAG Dairy, The Science and Engineering Challenge, RYDA road safety education and exchange programs.
Rotary members say helping the community brings a great feeling and to do it as a team is even better.
The Rotary Club has members from managerial and business backgrounds that put their skills together to help others.
The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.
It also aims to encourage the development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.
Rotary believes in high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful professions and the dignifying of each Rotarians occupation as an opportunity to serve society.
The next few months will be busy for Wingham Rotary and those involved with the expo with the call soon to go out for interested exhibitors.
