High tide

IT was a burst of colour on Monday as Wingham High School took over Wingham Pool for its annual swimming carnival.

Spirits were high as the sun shone on the hundreds of competitors and spectators.

Competition in the water was fierce for some who pushed for personal bests and the title of swim champion.

Others made the most of the novelty 25 metre races and the chance to cool off in the water.

Sports house Oxley came out victorious followed by Macquarie, Manning and Parkes.

The all-age house relay was a highlight combining the best swimmers from each year in the one event.

It was on for young and old when the time came for the teachers versus student relay.

The annual year 12 boat race was again a spectacle with the senior students in their elaborate inflatable craft pitching themselves against each other to win the honour of first place.

Hawaiian grass skirts, sailor hats and inflatable rings were some of the hot trends poolside with zinc stripes a must for many.

The swimming carnival’s live radio station took requests from the crowd and produced spontaneous Gangnam style dance offs around the pool.
