Wingham team reigns

02 Feb, 2010 11:50 AM
The District Rifle Association teams was held at Wingham with 15 shot matches and five person teams at 700yds and 300mtrs.

Two of Wingham’s junior shooters, Bronte Thurtell and Bill Blackmore, helped Wingham No 1 team win by two points from Port Macquarie and five from Kempsey.

Due to the unavailability of club champion Steve Southwell and recent Queens winner Tony Moon, Wingham had to promote two of their up and coming shooters to fill the gap. Their solid performances helped Wingham to take out the off rifle section of the competition.

Peter Thurtell continued his brilliant domination with a perfect score of 150.18/150 closely followed by Ray Nash from Port Macquarie of 150.12 and coming in third was Mike Chad also from Port Macquarie with 149.16.

In the F class standard event Kempsey were two strong for the Wingham pair of Phil Costa and Keven Haytack winning comfortably by 42 points. However Phil and Keven are very new to the sport and will improve from this experience under competition pressure.
