 The Hollands are back

The Hollands are back

03 Nov, 2009 10:54 AM
Early in the year, Wingham Rifle Club member John Holland had a serious fall. At one stage, he was not expected to survive his horrific injuries.

But with the unfailing help of his wife Jo, medical staff, family and friends, he is well on the road to recovery – so much so that he visited the club last week and shot!

Jo was devoted to his recovery and she had not shot since John’s accident either.

All members were very happy to see them and they got together with Jo to organise a special frame for John to sit at and have a go at his beloved sport.

Unable to shoot target rifle at this stage of his recovery, John used Jo’s F-class rifle in the seated position, used by many shooters with back problems or other disabilities.

With some assistance, John shot a 47 and then a 48 for a score of 95/120, which would have been a good score for any person who had not shot for nearly a year.

Jo managed to shoot the same score, so no doubt the competition between them will be as strong as in the many other family duos at Wingham Rifle Club.

Phil Costa shot 109 to win the handicap event for the second week in a row, narrowly beating Keith Gleeson and Bev Rogerson.

Phil has been putting a lot of work into his hand loading which is certainly paying off.

Bev Rogerson out-shot her husband Mike by six points so he will be doing the dishes this week!

Chris Burdett is shooting F-class open after completing his club championship scores for the year in F-class standard, which finishes at the end of April each year.

Tony Moon top-scored the target rifle section also for the second week in a row and again scored high on the centres with a 100.12, the only double on the range. Peter Thurtell was unlucky with one wind shot for a 99.15. The only other possible was by Wendy Moon in her first stage.

Keith Gleeson shot a solid score of two 47s and is also keen to improve his weekly scores.

Next week, members will shoot either 300 metres or 500 yards depending on the new grass on the mounds.
