With the 41 degree heat and the need to wear heavy shooting coats, numbers were well down for the 800yd championship range at Wingham Rifle Club.
There were also other members shooting at the Festival of Sydney Shoot in Sydney.
Out of the nine shooters who did turn up, Frank Alcott top scored the handicap division by shooting a personal best score. Frank is a new member to the club having previously shot with the strong Sydney VDC Club 20 years ago and is slowly returning to his previous A grade status.
Another personal best was scored by Keith Gleeson shooting a 97, three points better than his previous best score.
Phil Costa had an outstanding first stage personal best with a 59/60 but was unable to maintain his form into the second stage.
In the A grade three perfect scores were shot with Steve Southwell far away the best shooting 100-17, which means he had 17 shots in a 10 inch group.
Tony and Wendy Moon both shot 100-14. This takes Tony’s championship score to 1399 out of 1400, breaking the old highest score of 1397 held by Steve Southwell last year.
However the club championship is still wide open with a number of shooters that can take out the top spot in all grades.
Scores
Steve Southwell 100-17, Tony Moon 100-14, Wendy Moon 100-14, Jim Blackmore 99-09, Keith Gleeson 97-05, Dave Willis 96-07 (visitor from Armidale), Frank Alcott 92-05.
Phil Costa 112, Keven Haytack 107.
Next week is 800yds again for the club championship.
