Dad and daughter clean up at shoot

01 Dec, 2009 12:18 PM
Sixteen-year-old Wingham Rifle Club shooter Bronte Thurtell had her first shoot with her new rifle last weekend and scored 100-09 to easily take out the handicap trophy.

This was Bronte’s third double possible for the season which is an outstanding achievement for a junior shooter.

This has never been done in the club’s history.

Also making history was her father Peter who shot 50-09 and then 50-10 to beat his old mark of 100-18.

This is putting 19 shots out of 20 in a six-inch group at 600 yards with peep sights.

Phil Costa continues to improve, shooting 111/120 with his new equipment made by fellow club member Keven Haytack.

He narrowly defeated Mike Rogerson by one point.

Nathan Eagles struggled with the sight picture in his first round and, with the help of experienced club members, made changes and scored a very credible 49-01 in his second stage.

Also club stalwart Brian Mavin returned to shooting after a lengthy absence due to illness and scored a very solid 97-08.

Also returning from injury, Rob Bartlett showed he is settling back in to score a solid 46 in his second round.

Next weekend will be the championship range at 800 yards.
