A-graders shooters dominate

08 Dec, 2009 11:52 AM
Peter Thurtell top-scored two weeks in a row for Wingham Rifle Club, shooting a perfect score of 100 with 17 centrals.

Closely following was Steve Southwell and Tony Moon with 14 centrals and Wendy Moon with 13.

This meant 100 per cent of the A-graders shooting had perfect scores; it was just the centre count that separated them.

Tony Moon is now out in front and has broken the A-grade club championship score by one point, scoring 1398/1400.

However there are still five months of shooting to go and last year’s champion Steve Southwell and triple club champion Wendy Moon are right on his heels.

In the B-grade, Barry White beat Brian Mavin by one centre bull, both scoring 97/100.

In the C-grade, Bronte Thurtell fired a miss costing her five points. She still top-scored that grade with 95.12, counting out Nathan Eagles on 95.07.

Bronte’s second stage of 50.8 breaks the junior and C-grade records at 800 yards.

Damian Croft had his best ever single stage score of 49.5 on his second shoot.

His position was altered by a senior member of the club and this enabled him to reach this fantastic score.

This will give Damian a new lease of life in this sport that he loves and should increase his consistency overall.

The smile on Damian’s face gives the senior members as much pleasure as shooting good scores themselves.

In the F-class, Bev Rogerson beat Keven Haytack on a countback with scores of 107/120.

The gate was left open by Phil Costa when he cross fired and scored 104 instead of 110.

Gloucester shooter Nick Kenny, who has been shooting regularly for some time with Wingham Rifle Club, shot an 89 to easily win the handicap section.
