Under 7s
THE boys travelled to Forster to take on the Hawks on a windy Saturday morning for their last game of the normal competition rounds. With regular coach Brad Staff away on holidays, Ryan McIntosh stepped in to take charge.
There were plenty of determined runners on the day, with Logan Smith, Daniel Pereira and Sam McIntosh all having solid runs. The boys even showed a bit of flair and started to pass the ball around a bit more which resulted in some good footy. Travis Fazio, Beau Brown and Grady Lewis tackled hard all game and managed to get several Hawks over the sideline. Blake Minton, who played despite being on the sick list, deserves a special mention as he tried hard all game. Try scorers were: Daniel Pereira (2) and Grady Lewis (1). Beau Brown and Daniel Pereira both kicked one goal each.
Well done boys, a great end to a fantastic season!
U7s gala day
THE Wingham Tigers under 7s headed to Port Macquarie for the end of season mini league gala day on Sunday.
Wingham v Wauchope
THE first game of the gala day was against the Wauchope Blues, and it took a while for the boys to find their feet. Sam McIntosh was once again at his scheming best, and managed to sneak around the defence to score the first try of the day. Daniel Pereira and Logan Smith tackled well all game, whilst Braydon Stone from the Under 6s had a great game and also scored a try. Grady Lewis was solid in attack and defence and Travis Fazio was determined as always. Ryan Allan, Braydon Stone and Jye Boughton from the U6s, displayed their toughness by playing up an age division and all played very well. Thanks boys.
Wingham v Taree Panthers
THE second game was against the Taree Panthers, and was played on a hard and dusty field. Daniel Pereira continues to dazzle the opposition every time he has the ball in his hands and scored two great tries. Travis Fazio had a good 'captains knock' and scored a well deserved try. Grady Lewis made some good tackles and showed some skill to pass the ball on occasion after being tackled. Sam McIntosh and Logan Smith both made a couple of good breaks and were unlucky not to score. After a bruising encounter the boys were happy to head off and have some lunch!
Wingham v Taree Panthers
Once again, the boys managed to draw the Taree Panthers, and so the scene was set for another hard game. With the boys knowing that this was their last game in U7s, they were determined to go out as winners. Logan Smith was the first player to break the Panthers defence and was tackled just short of the line, however after receiving a penalty, he quickly crossed the line to score. The Panthers had some big boys, however Travis Fazio was like a 'man possessed' and tackled everything that came his way. Sam McIntosh showed some good footwork when he managed to run around the Panthers on two occasions to score some lengthy tries. Grady Lewis also palmed a few Panthers defenders off to score a great try down the sideline, while Jye Boughton (U6s), again, had several good runs.
Daniel Pereira was once again, one of the best on field, and made some very smart cover tackles and was unlucky not to score after some fancy footwork.
Well done boys! You all played very well. Thank you under 6s Ryan Allan, Braydon Stone and Jye Boughton who helped out. Jye Boughton played a total of six games on Sunday - an awesome effort from the young Tiger!
Under 11s
WINGHAM under 11s played at the Wingham Sporting Complex against Wauchope on Saturday.
The game started strongly with two quick tries by Cooper Lewis and one conversion. Wauchope fought back with two tries and two conversions. The first half ended with Jai Slaven grabbing a lost ball off Wauchope and scoring. Jai also converted.
The second half started with another quick try to Cooper Lewis. Unfortunately Wauchope came back strongly and scored four more times to win the game 36-20.
Under 15s
THE Wingham under 15s travelled to Forster on Saturday and came away with a convincing 28 to 14 win against a strong Forster side.
The Wingham boys started slowly and the Forster side scored first. It was the last time in the first half that they bothered the scorer. The Wingham boys piled on 16 unanswered points and tackled the Forster side out of the game.
The second half was a torrid affair with Forster applying the pressure before centre James Neveron put the game beyond doubt. The next 15 minutes was a stop start affair with Forster being awarded 8 straight penalties to nil with some very strange decisions. The boys were very committed and a late try by Nathan Gillies sealed the match. Outstanding games were had by Nathan Gillies, Aaron Beecroft, Nick Hull and Brodie Myers.
