THE Wingham Tigers first grade rugby league side were dealt their second loss of the Group 3 season on Sunday when soundly beaten by the Forster-Tuncurry Hawks 42-6.
The Tigers travelled to Harry Elliot Oval at Tuncurry on the back of a big win over Taree City last week.
The Hawks went ahead 6-0 after ten minutes, then added another converted try five minutes later from a scrum win.
The Hawks then led 18-0 after another try.
Right on half time, Wingham halfback Anthony Cowan juggled the ball in the in-goal area after a chip kick. The referee disallowed Cowan’s try on the touch judge’s report that the ball was knocked on.
After the disappointment, it was important that the Tigers started well in the second half, but the opposite happened.
Forster-Tuncurry ran in three long ranged tries in the first ten minutes to lead 36-0.
Five minutes later, a dropped ball by the Tigers led to another run away try and a 42 point advantage.
Wingham finally got on the scoreboard when Vince Lockwood dived on a grubber kick from Willie Lockwood. The try was converted by Anthony Cowan.
But the Tigers were outclassed, going down by 42-6 in just their second loss for 2010.

Reserve graders find their form
THINGS have certainly turned around for the Wingham Tigers reserve grade team after consecutive wins over teams placed higher on the competition table.
An 80-metre run by Ryan McIntosh from a scrum win gave Wingham first points. Shaun Carr converted the try for a 6-0 lead.
Five minutes later, the home team equalised with a try under the posts.
Towards half time, some sparking football saw the ball go from sideline to sideline and back on a last tackle play with Wingham’s Craig Ryan scoring out wide. Again Shaun Carr added the extra points to give the Tigers a 12-6 lead at the break.
Five minutes into the second stanza, Shaun Carr was sin-binned. The Hawks scored out wide to reduce the deficit to 12-10.
Soon after, a brawl erupted, and a Forster player ran away to score. The try was disallowed, and Wingham got the penalty. Several plays later, Joel Kliendienst scored beside the posts. Adam Kerr converted the try for the visitors to lead 18-10.
A penalty goal to Shaun Carr inside the last ten minutes made the score 20-10.
A late try to Nat Lowman from dummy half, converted by Shaun Carr, made the final score 26-10.

Joel Wilson and Tim Watson scored first half tries to go to the break at 12-12.
Both players also scored second half tries to lead 22-18.
A late try to Aaron Bakewell sealed the victory for the young Tigers who remain undefeated.
