THE Wingham Tigers are back in full training under the watchful eyes of coach Willie Lockwood and head trainer Donald Bell in preparation for the 2010 Group 3 Rugby League season.
Numbers at training have been solid in all grades, with most of last year’s players returning and some new faces making an appearance.
The Tigers hope to organise three trial games before the start of the Group Three Rugby League season.
"We have a game booked in against Nambucca Heads on February 27,'' Wingham president Brenden Summerfield said.
He added the Tigers will host West Tamworth in the annual clash this year.
"We're negotiating with one other club, we want three games before the start of the season,'' Summerfield added.
He said the club has been getting between 35 and 45 players at pre-season training sessions for the three grades.
"We have heaps of young fellas, so that's a good thing,'' he added.
Main gain this season is captain-coach Willy Lockwood. The Tigers have also signed a halfback and a utility forward from the Group Two area.
"We're looking pretty strong at this stage,'' Summerfield said.
The Women’s League Tag will commence training on Tuesday February 23 at the Wingham Sporting Complex commencing at 6pm.
Phil Williams will again coach the girls. Any girls wanting to play please turn up on this night or for further information ring Phil Williams on 6550 5770 or Wayne Goward 6553 5617.
The Tigers will hold their annual David Steel Memorial Golf and Bowls Day on Sunday February 21 with golf in the morning and bowls in the afternoon.
The cost will be $80 per team of four players and this will include lunch. Breakfast will be available for a minimal cost.
Players can put their names down at the Wingham Golf Club or the Wingham Bowling Club. For further information ring Wayne Goward 6553 5617 or Brenden Summerfield 0417 464 011.
In conjunction with the memorial golf and bowls day, the Tigers will draw their boat raffle at the presentation at the Wingham Bowling Club.
Anyone wanting to purchase tickets can do so on the day or see any Tigers committee member.
The boat will also be back in Wingham for the week leading up to the draw (February 15 to 21) and tickets can be purchased during this week. Again, contact Wayne Goward on 6553 5617 for more information.
