Junior footy season reaches semi final stage

Under 11s

THE Wingham Tigers under 11s played at Port Macquarie on Saturday. It was a good game with tries for Wingham scored by Ty Allan, Mitch Saxby, Jai Slaven and Tyler Brooks. There were conversions by Cooper Lewis, Jordan Woodward and a fantastic kick by Jacob Smith. The defence on the day was strong with tackles by Jaland Small, Braiden Slade, Kyle Martin and Travis Summerville.

Good ground was made with runs by Alex Milliken, Billy Bartlett, Ryan Poultan and Lachie Burnes. Wauchope were the winners on the day with a strong team, winning 42-22.

Many thanks to the coaches Brent 'Titchy' Sheehan and Adam 'Nugget' Kerr for all their work in getting the team as far as they did this season.

Under 15s

THE Tigers travelled to Port Macquarie to play Taree in the major final and were beaten 22 to 6.

The Tigers lead 6 to 4 at half time after Geordon Smith put in a grubber kick and scored 10 minutes before the break. It was a very tough first half and the Tigers were right in the game. Their defence was outstanding. The Panthers kept coming at them but were repeatedly denied points by the Tigers' rugged line defence. The second half was very tight for the first ten minutes, but the Tigers continually dropped the ball in critical situations and the panthers made them pay the penalty by adding a further four tries. Zac Brown's effort in defence was unbelievable. He continually made tackle after tackle.

Nathan gillies was strong up front as was Aaron Becroft. The Tigers will now play Foster in the final. Try scorer was Geordon Smith

Under 16s

IT was semi final day at Port Macquarie last Saturday, and this saw the under 16s Tigers taking on the Port Breakers to stay alive in the competition.

The young Tigers couldn't have started any stronger, blowing the Breakers off the park with their superior speed and rock-solid defence.

This took the boys to an early 16-nil lead with tries to Christian Hazard, Mitch Barnett and Mitch Slaven, who scored a great individual try from dummy half.

It was here the inspirational footy ended and the scrappy, error riddled, undisciplined football began.

Only the solid defence remained to keep the Breakers out as they made raid after raid on the Tigers' line.

Port did manage to cross the line twice in the second half, but so did the Wingham boys with Jacob Lonsdale and Isaac Castles adding to the score to make the final outcome 26 to 8.

Players player was Garyn Burns, who yet again had a pearler of a game at fullback and never looked like dropping the many spiraling bombs in the wind! The Tigers now take on the Panthers next week at Taree to determine who will meet Camden Haven in the grand final.
