There was good news for the Wingham Rugby League Club as the under 18s won a nail-biter against Taree City.
The Tigers scored first when Jesse Pietrzak crossed out wide to put them ahead 4-0.
A mistake then put the Bulls on the attack which resulted in a converted try.
With eight minutes remaining before the break, another Taree try extended their lead to 10-4.
Then Sam Power, playing his first game in almost two months, forced his way over the line near the posts. Trent Grofos added the extra points to level the scores at 10-10.
As the half time siren sounded, a blind side raid saw Kurtis Milliken put the ball down in the corner to put Wingham ahead 14-10.
Five minutes into the second half, Zac Gaul put the Tigers further ahead with a try converted by Trent Grofos.
The Bulls then started to dominate. Midway through the second half, Taree City scored from a grubber kick to trail 20-16.
Ten minutes later, they scored again in the corner. The conversion went wide, and the scores were locked at 20-20 with five minutes remaining.
Both teams had attempts at field goal. Then with just over one minute remaining, Nick Beacham was successful kicking a field goal.
The young Tigers were able to hold on to their 21-20 lead to win, and progress to the preliminary final next Sunday.
