Wingham fishos bring in big haul

27 Jul, 2010 01:14 PM
ANOTHER great outing was held over the weekend of July 18 and 19 when a total of 18 fishers, including two junior members, participated in Wingham Services Bluewater Fishing Club's July meeting.

A total of 109 kilos of fish were caught by the members- the best recorded for a total of ten years.

Attendance at the barbecue weigh-in was the best also for a long time and good to see several new members present along with additional family members.

Species caught included Tailor, Drummer, Luderick, Bream, Flounder, Pearl Perch, Whiting, Flathead, Jewfish, Snapper, Leather Jacket and Morwong.

The crew of 'Keala J', captain Jack Muxlow and his deckie Chris Burdett had a very pleasing day with their catch of a huge snapper each. captain Jack just pipped Chris with the top weight of 3.89 kilos with his snapper while Chris's came in at 3.6 kilos - so there will be plenty of tasty fish to be eaten by these two guys.

As a result of the 'big one' Jack took out the Blue Water section winning the Home Hardware sponsored voucher for the outing.

The beach, rock and estuary title for July was taken out by Wayne Reeves who won the Manning Valley Tackle Shop sponsored voucher.

Two juniors fished over the weekend but only one being lucky enough to have something to weigh in and this award of the Wingham Home Hardware Voucher went to Jullyian Allen.

New member Rita Harris won the secret species Wingham Services Club voucher with her nice morwong.

During August there will be two outings, the first over the weekend of August 14 and 15 and followed up by one on the weekend of August 28 and 29, so all are hoping for another great fishing weekend.

The fishing club is open to all for a small fee of $5.50 per year but members must also belong to the parent club, Wingham Services Club, to be eligible.

Following consultation with the Wingham Hotel Fishing Club, a combined outing has been arranged for September 12, more details will be advised as the date draws closer.
