Tigers ready

31 Mar, 2009 12:08 PM
Wingham senior and junior rugby league will throw a combined season launch this Friday at the Wingham Bowling Club.

Circus Mule will provide the entertainment and light supper will be provided.

During the night, the Tigers will acknowledge their club and jumper sponsors for the 2009 season, as well as introducing the senior teams, announcing the coaches and announcing the sponsors for women’s league tag.

There will also be plenty of prizes up for grabs in the popular raffles.

The night begins at 7pm and entry is free.

OLD BOYS UNITE

The Wingham Tigers Old Boys are getting back together for 2009.

The group of former Wingham rugby league players and supporters was popular last year and organisers are hoping to attract new members for the upcoming footy season.

Joining fees are $80 for existing members and $100 for new members.

Registered Old Boys receive:

* Free admission to all Tigers home games at the Wingham Sporting Complex

* A souvenir cap

* The chance to participate in the season’s $2 days. These will be held during round five (May 16) and round eight (June 13), where punters will be able purchase steak sandwiches and beer for only $2

* The chance to participate in the free day (July 18), where punters will be treated to steak sandwiches and beer for free

For more information on the club, phone Wayne Goward on 6553 5617.

TRIAL MATCH APPROACHES

The Wingham Tigers’ under 18s and reserve grades will warm up for the 2009 rugby league season with a trial on Sunday at Old Bar.

Tigers supporters are encouraged to attend to cheer the boys on.

LEAGUE TAG GIRLS GOING STRONG

The Wingham Tigers Football Club is expecting to field a strong side in the inaugural women’s league tag competition which will launch at the beginning of the Group Three competition.

The team, which trains on Thursdays at the Wingham Sporting Complex, welcomes other players.

If you would like to participate, contact coach Phil Williams on 6550 5770.

LATHAM IN DOUBT

The Wingham Tigers are, as yet, unable to confirm whether Joey Latham will return to play for the club this season.

The 2007 Group Three Player of the Year did not play with the club last year, but it was hoped he would return to play for the club in some capacity in 2009.

He injured his finger while working at Moree and this has thrown doubt on his ability to play.
