WINGHAM Pony Club performed strongly at the Zone 9 Hacking and Dressage championships at Macksville, our two representatives missing out on an overall reserve champions sash by less than one per cent.
The club was represented by Laine Kennedy (riding Buzz) and Elyse Kennedy (riding Beau).
Zone 9 reaches from Coffs Harbour down to Forster, and includes Wingham. There was a large contingency from the northern clubs and the quality of horses and riders was impressive.
The hacking was held on the Saturday. Laine did exceptionally well on Buzz, proving to be a perfect combination of horse and rider.
She won her hack over 16hh, claimed third in best-educated hack, and a sixth in her rider class of 13 to 15 years. She then went on to take out Reserve Champion Hack over 15hh.
Then, Elyse and Laine together took out fifth place in the pair of hacks over 15hh.
On Sunday they held the dressage events.
Elyse and Beau were sixth in one of their two tests and narrowly missed out on a ribbon in the other test. Laine and Buzz finished third and a fifth. They narrowly missed out on an overall Reserve Champion sash by less than one per cent.
Alex named top showjumper
WINGHAM Pony Club member Alex Watts has won the under 25 age group at the 2010 Pony Club NSW showjumping championships.
Alex competed at the event as a representative of the Zone 9 Pony Club, which stretches from Coffs Harbour to Forster.
Zone 9 Pony Club members performed admirably over the weekend, winning the overall Zone award at the Kendall Showground.
All reports from Kendall were that the Showjumping championships were a great success despite boggy conditions.
The Zone had nine representatives competing who all performed well within their respective age groups, taking home several place ribbons from each of the four rounds of competition, with the
best four riders contributing to the Champion Zone award.
The next state event is the Dressage championships on Saturday and Sunday August 28 and 29 at the Albury Equestrian Centre.
