Champion archer Ella Hartcher will compete overseas for the first time next year.
The year nine Wingham High School student will travel to Dahn in Germany to contest the International Field Archery Association (IFAA) World Championships.
She will take on the world’s best archers over five days of intense competition from August 1 to 5.
Ella, a Burrell Creek resident, is the current junior girl Australian Barebow Champion, the pinnacle of a long list of achievements in this 14-year-old’s archery career (see breakout).
Her father, Tony Hartcher, is heavily involved with the Manning District Archers and he introduced Ella to the sport at an early age.
She first picked up the bow at age four.
The Manning District Archers meet once a month and between interclub shoots and practice at home at Burrell Creek, she has honed her skills to be one of the best young shooters in the nation.
The Hartchers will be joined by two other Burrell Creek shooters, Mark Fotheringham and his son James.
The five day tournament is on from August 1 to 5, 2010.
The tournament will test a range of skills and requires the shooters to compete consistently to accrue points. There are two field rounds, two animal rounds and two hunter rounds.
This will be Ella’s first trip overseas.
