Wingham Devils

THE girls had not anticipated such a tight game last Saturday against a commendable CJ Diamonds outfit.

In unseasonably warm conditions, the Devils were never convincing against a much improved CJs side, but just kept their noses in front by a couple of goals each quarter to finally bring home the points by a small margin of four goals.

The girls’ shots just did not want to fall in the ring, but the middle court players were relentless in keeping the ball heading the shooters end. Defence was outstanding on the day, with Brie Hannon very strong in GD, and had great support from Currina Everleigh. Final score was 18-14.

Wingham Wildcats

ON August 7 Hayley Robinson successfully captained the Wingham Wildcats to a victory over TC Cheetahs 29-15.

The Cheetahs were ranked second in the competition and Wingham Wildcats third, and although the Wildcats dominated the first quarter and lead at the break 8-4, they lost their way for a short period of time and this saw the Cheetahs run away and lead 12 - 13 at half time.

The Wildcats regained their composure and dominated the rest of the game resulting in a good win.

Ally Unicomb and Kirstyn Oxenbridge were outstanding in defence making some great intercepts. Taleigha Dwyer fed the ball in well to Brielle Oxenbridge and Tegan Wenham in the goal circle who moved well in and around the goal circle and capitalised on some good shots.

Kiah Murray continues to improve and she too displayed strong defence while Hayley's poise and ability to read the play is a payoff for her dedication at training.

Wingham Wildcats

THIS week the Wildcats’ pocket rocket Ally Unicomb captained the side to victory over the TC Tinkerbells 42-13.

Ally backed up from the Zone athletics carnival and showed great form intercepting many passes.

Taleigha Dwyer also participated at Zone and again she played beautifully all over the court. Ally, Taleigha, Kaitlyn Marshall and Kiah Murray were strong in defence and dominated when they broke free from their opponents. The versatile Brielle Oxenbridge and Erin Dunn both contributed to the Wildcats win in all positions they played while Hayley Robinson and Kirstyn Oxenbridge shone in defence.

The ever-energetic Tegan Wenham showed maturity to adapt well to some strong opponents. Tegan, Brielle and Erin all combined their play and shot well. Congratulations girls on a lovely game and well deserved win.
