 Young Tigers take the prize

Young Tigers take the prize

16 Feb, 2010 12:15 PM
WITH the inclement weather still persisting, golfers, like most people, are getting pretty frustrated and combined with the unbelievably thick grass on the course, scoring is fairly difficult. However, a good field of veterans played a two man ambrose Wednesday and the winners were Bill Osborne and Geoff Swaffield with a net 60. Runners up were the Shelly/Hinchcock combination with Rex White and Merv Marsden third. Nearest the pin (NTP) winners were Trevor Jones on the 3/12 and John Aldous on the 7/16.

Another group of keen ambrose players played the popular mid week event, the young Tigers again winning the event, this week with a ring in to replace their captain.

Second place was taken up by the John Crossingham Plumbing team and third went to the improving 4 Iron Restaurant team. Obviously the two new young chefs are starting to match their beautiful food and cooking with their stroke play, congrats boys on both. NTPs were won by Brock Hynes and Grant Cowie.

Thursday’s chook run had a good rollup and with scoring generally difficult, Jarrod Harris’ 23 points stood out like a beacon. Next best was another great score, that of Ian Scarr with 21 points, then Ken Squires with 20, followed by a couple of hackers David Andres and Graham Steel both on 19 points. Graham Steel managed a jag on the third to win the NTP as did Rex White on the seventh.

Saturday was the first round of the MRD Electrical Summer/Autumn trophy and the winner just scraping home with 30 points was popular new member Gary Morley with his first major. Congratulations Gary. Net winners were Greg Foy with 39 as well in A grade, B grade to Terry Harris and C grade to a consistent Doug Heywood also on 39 points. Scratch winners were Rod Brown A grade, M Evans (Taree) and Bill Millward C grade.

There were two eagles on the day, Neil Moore on the par five second and the other to Greg Foy to win the Bent on Food for a Valentine’s Day coffee.

Other NTP winners were Gary Croucher on the 3/12, Rod Brown on the 4/13, and Paul Knapp the Plaza Butchers 1/10 and young Mitch Pedron got back in the good books with Mum and Dad by winning the Bayview Seafoods NTP on the 7/16. Denise Polley won the ladies competition from a field of one. Tough day however Denise, looking at your score.

Next week is another individual stableford for round two of the popular MRD Electrical Summer/Autumn trophy, with the 2010 ITP/Country Wide business Solutions Club championships starting the following week. Other upcoming events include the Wingham Tigers David Steel Memorial Golf/Bowls day, this Sunday February 21. This is a nine-hole four person ambrose and each group must have at least one competent golfer on their team. Sheet is in the golf club. Good luck and good golfing.
