The Wednesday veterans staged an 18-hole individual stableford this week and some extraordinary scoring was on display.
Barry Hodgson was the star performer with, would you believe, 48 points – and no it was not a team total.
Of the mere mortal scores, the minor places were shared by Garry Stackman, Graham Troth and Alex Kees, all with 40 points.
The OBE (over bloody eighty) winner was Ian Morrow.
Nearest-the-pins (NTPs) went to Syd Gilfillan on the 7th/16th and to Cec Pedron on the 3rd/12th.
Midweek golf was well contested again, the Wednesday ambrose attracting 60 keen golfers.
The winning team this week was the Absolute Building Contractors team from the Gilbert Painters team.
Third place went to Andrew Cross’s team with less than one shot covering the first three places.
NTP winner was the result of a great shot from Craig Schubert on the third hole.
The Thursday chook run was extremely competitive, the winner retired dairy farmer David Andrews on 22 points.
Graham Lewis scored on a countback from Col McTaggart with 21 points and the next two places, Rod Brown and Alex Kees, both on 20 points.
The NTP on the third hole went to Graham Lewis and the seventh to Mark Pedron.
Saturday was another great day and, with the course in absolutely superb condition, scores were tremendous.
Would you believe someone with a 65 nett was relegated to second spot?
Winner of the Taree Motorama Monthly Mug and B-grade MRD Electrical Medal was our number one ticket holder and volunteer Rex White, his 65 nett too good for Mark “I choked on the last three holes” Pedron.
“Pedro” did however win A-grade nett and the MRD Electrical A-grade medal.
Other winners were Tony Henwood, B-grade nett, and Bob Yarnold, just missing out on the car but winning C-grade nett and the medal.
Scratch winners included another good round from regular Taree visitor Steve O’Donoghue to win A-grade.
Garry Croucher took B-grade and C-grade went to Bill Millward, playing good, consistent golf of late.
The women’s winner again was the youngster Clare Cattell and the runner-up was her boss, the “old girl” Lesley Steel. Just joking dear.
NTP winners were Neil Evenden on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Mark Pedron on the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th, Syd Gilfillan had no trouble finding 12 mates to share the port after winning the 4th/13th hole and Steve O’Donoghue will have to shout his mum a Bent on Food coffee after his shot on the 9th/18th.
The very popular Bayview Seafood NTP hole, the 7th/16th, was won by Rex White after one of his many good shots Saturday.
The women’s champagne hole, the 7th/16th, was won by Joy White.
The Kangaroofing Long Drives were won by Andrew Cross (A-grade), Matt Andrews (B-grade) and Jason Fowles (C-grade). Funny how they are all young blokes.
Also conducted last Saturday was the fifth and final round of the Oxley Insurance Stroke Trophy and this has proved to be an extremely popular event.
The overall winner on 281 was Terry Grant. Equal second were Earle Braham, Rod Brown and Neil Moore, all on 284, and fifth was also shared by Jock Martin and Steve O’Donoghue on 285.
Congratulations Terry and to all the other winners.
This week, we have the secretary manager’s trophy so if you would like some of Fogy’s money, Saturday is your chance. See you there.
Good luck and good golfing.
