Wednesday veterans started the ball rolling again this week with a single stableford.
Former Wingham first grade footballer Barry Sky finished on the right side of the ledger, his 42 points too good for former vets captain Gordon McCluskey, also on 42. Retired school teacher, Bill Osborne continued his steady form to finish third on 40 points. Gordon McCluskey also won the NTP on the 3rd / 12th, as did retired bus driver Dennis Wisely on the 7th / 16th.
The Thursday chook run continues to attract good fields and the winner this week was Jim Bradshaw from the ‘skins’ group with 22 points. Runner-up, also a ‘skin’ member, was Mark Fog, beaten on a countback.
Third place was club champion, Rod Brown on 21 points, 4th to Dennis Wisely also on 21 and 5th place to David Wilson from Mayric Engineering, obvious enjoying his midweek golf, with 20 points. Well done Willow. Fog also won the 3rd NTP with David Blair doing likewise on the 7th. Rod Brown was rewarded for his consistent golf, winning the LJ Hooker June umbrella with 71 points.
Saturday was another pretty miserable day weather wise, however 86 very keen and dedicated golfers managed some pretty good scores. Also it was the first knockout round of the prestigious Mid Coast Bearing 4BBB sponsored by Cec Russell with interesting results.
Winner of the day, an individual stableford, was popular life member, Bob “Chubby” Yarnold, with 43 points. This was a pretty exciting win for “Chubby” as he certainly has been struggling with his game for a while. However a few ‘hints’ from yours truly last Thursday in the chook run have obviously paid dividends. Well done.
Other winners included Josh Mawby from Taree with the A grade net, Alex Wilson B grade net and C grade net to Mick Bartlett, continuing his good form. Scratch winners on the day were Rod Brown A grade, Matt Essery B-grade and John Hynes C-grade. Balls went out to 35 on a countback.
NTPs were won by Steve O’Donoghue on the Wingham Plaza Butchers 1st/10th hole, Rod Brown the 3rd/12th, Nathan Moore won the popular Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th as did Richard Dudgeon on the Bent on Food 9th/18th hole. No one claimed the 4th/13th schooner hole which now jackpots.
This week we have the July Taree Motorama Monthly Mug with the MRD Electrical Medals and Kangaroofing long drives in conjunction and again the sheet is filling fast.
One criticism this week. Recently players have obviously been struggling with the cold damp Saturday mornings, with a number of players not arriving on time to play their game. Also some players have been confused over their hit-off times.
Please remember we have volunteers running the pro shop, quite often a stressful job. It is every player’s responsibility to know their tee time and to pay up at least 10 minutes before your tee time. If you are running late, please phone the club and make it easier for the starter.
