ANOTHER busy week at the Golf Club has seen some wonderful scores recorded.
First up a large field of Vets played Wednesday with the winner being Neville Hall, his nett 67 beating an unlucky Barry Sky on a countback. Third place went to Geoff Swaffield with a well compiled nett 69. Nearest the pins (NTPs) were won by Ron Wilson on the 3rd / 12th and Merv Philips on the 7th /16th.
Wednesday afternoon 50 ambrose players turned up with the Schoolies team of Dave Elliott, Dave Irvine and Scott Brown beating the John Crossingham Plumbing team by one quarter of a shot. Third place went to the Middle-aged Tigers team captained by Jeff Reading. NTP winners were Dave Irvine on the 3rd end Scott Brown on the 7th. A jubilant Allan Skinner was popular at home after winning the cooked chook. Mick Murray again won the port.
The weekly chook run was won this week by Garry Masters and the Thursday event was a real battle with would you believe three players on 24 points, visitors Daniel Stone emerging the winner on a count back. NTPs were taken up by Brad Hockley on the 3rd and Beth Braham on the 7th.
Saturday’s event was the popular Taree Motorama March Monthly Mug and boy, were there some incredible scores. With most of the A-graders ‘whinging’ about the pin positions, the rest of the field had a ball especially Graeme ‘Jock’ Martin who managed his best ever round of nett 62. Jock also won the C-grade MRD Electrical Medal as did Franz Schubert in A-grade and Jarrod Harris in B-grade. Terry Grant also played well to win the C -grade nett. Scratch winners were Brendon Walker in A-grade, birthday boy Dennis McKeough in B-grade and evergreen Ron Wilson continued his good form to win C- grade with fine 88.
As it was the second round of the Country Wide Business Solutions Club Championships the pressure was on and last week’s leader struggled with Neil Moore now leading A-grade by one shot from Rod Brown, Brandon Walker and Peter Budden. In B-grade Mark Pedron, Andrew Cross and Richard Dudgeon are all equal leaders on 161. B1-grade has Jarrod Harris on 166 leading from Mal Fuller on 167. C-grade is definitely hotting up with new leader Jock Martin on 173 followed by Ron Wilson 177 and round one leader Reid Brown third at this stage on 180.
Kangaroofing Long drives were also on offer Saturday with Mick Shelly winning A-grade, Scott Blanch B-grade and Regan Woollard C-grade.
NTP winners were Dennis McKeough on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Glenn Thornburn the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th, the 4th /13th Port hole was won by Peter Budden and the 7th/16th Bayview Seafoods prize was won by Corey Moore.
A-grade leader and 2010 club senior champion Neil Moore completed a good day by winning the Bent on Food NTP on the 9th/18th. Whilst talking of Bent on Food, congratulations to Donna Carrier and her staff on their wonderful achievement of winning Best Tourism Restaurant in Australia. What an award.
This Saturday is round three of the Club championships so good luck and good golfing to all players.
