A good field of about 50 veterans played a stableford this past week with Col Motbey winning the day with 38 points.
Cec Pedron continued his good form to record 37 points for second and Ernie Starling should be a little happier, his 37 points good enough for third spot on a countback.
Bill Osborne hit with precision on the 7th/16th to win the NTP, and no-one put their name on the 3rd/12th.
The Thursday chook run was an interesting day with some phenomenal scores. In particular, Don Gutterson had an incredible score of 27 points (for 9 holes), obviously largely the result of some tips from his mate Tom Hadwell, who was very unlucky in his round.
Terry Wood also had a great day, his 24 points normally good enough for a win, but not this week.
Third spot went to Cory Moore with 20, followed by Michael Shelley and Graham Troth on 19 points. Cory and Mick also won the NTPs on the 3rd and 7th respectively.
Saturday was a beautiful day and was also the opening round of the prestigious Cec Russell sponsored Mid Coast Bearing 4BBB knockout.
With the big money on offer it was not surprising to see the ‘big guns’ out with some big totals produced.
Best on the day was the pairing of Matt Essery and Mick Bartlett with an amazing 52 points. It must have been the day for the young blokes as last year’s runner-up pairing of Stewart Baker and Ian Wheeler came in second with ‘only’ 48 points.
Third went to Tom Hadwell and Dick Clode with 47 points. I would have loved to have been a ‘fly on the wall’ in their group.
As a result of the day, the next few weeks will involve matchplay style knockout games between the qualifying groups. If you have not yet organised your game, please do so. Good luck to all.
NTP winners on the day were Glenn Thorburn on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Ray Bisby, the 3rd/12th, Wayne Lewis, the 4th/13th schooner hole. Matt Essery won the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th and Peter Kriss the Bent on Food 9th/18th. Glenn Thorburn had an eagle three on the 17th. Well done Glenn. Balls went out to 44 on a countback.
Next week we have an individual stableford.
Good luck and good golfing.
