A GOOD field of 50-odd players greeted the starter on Wednesday for the Vets playing single stableford event. Best players on the day were Dennis Wisley making a comeback to the game and Alan Hasiek both with 39 points. Next best were the old sages Neville Bell and Rex White both on 37 points. Nearest the pins (NTPs) were won by Barry Hodgson on the 7th/16th and John Daly on the 3rd/12th.
Wednesday afternoon saw a great field of 68 players contest the ambrose event and the winners again were the Young Tigers team, Manning Smash second and Luke Steel’s team third. NTP winners were Mat Essery on the third and the Jock Martin Excavations seven was won by Nigel Latham.
Thursday’s chook run was well contested with Grant Gutterson showing Dad how to do it with a well compiled 22 points. An unlucky Jason Harris was second on a countback, with Sandy Dunn and Laurie Pope next with 21 points. Rod Welch, Graham Steel and Terry Harris filled the remaining spots with 20 points each. NTPs were claimed by Denis Weisley on the third and Gary Masters on the seventh.
Saturday was a single stableford event and after some heavy rain most of the week and players playing off the deck, scores were relatively low for most players. Exceptions to this however were Garry Morley and Neil Evenden, both producing magic rounds. Garry emerged the best on the day, his massive 45 points too good for Neil on 43 points. Neil’s one-over par round however was good enough of the best A-grade score, as was Wayne Lewis in B-grade with young Reid Brown taking out C-grade on 38 points. Scratch winners in each grade were Neil Moore beating Rod Brown on a countback in A-grade, Jason Fowles beating Garry Croucher in B-grade and Brian Roberts beating Bill Millward in C-grade.
NTPs were interesting with two eagles scored on two NTP holes. First one was M Beattie, a visitor from Taree, holing out with his second shot on the 10th hole to win the Plaza Butchers NTP and then Neil Evenden did the same on the 18th for an eagle to win the Bent on Food voucher. NTP on the 3rd/12th was won by Paul Knapp with a great shot, Mick Woodward jagged out to win the 4th/13th schooner hole and Trevor Milne produced a beauty on the 7th/16th to win the Bayview Seafoods hole balls went out to 34 points on a countback.
Next Saturday is the start of the 2010 Country Wide Business Solutions/ITP club championships and as usual a big filled is already down to play with very few vacancies left on the starting sheet. At this stage play will be off the deck so scoring will be tough so hang in there as a lot can happen over 72 holes. Good luck to all participants and enjoy your round.
