Long drivers celebrate

08 Dec, 2009 11:51 AM
With the weather on the hot side for a few weeks now, scores have responded accordingly and have been on the high side as well.

Wednesday veteran players found the going a little hard however and some players struggled big time.

Alan Bishop and Danny Mills did not seem to have any problem both scoring 41 points, Al winning on a countback.

Third place went to Reg Peters on 40 and Reg was also able to win the nearest-the-pin (NTP) on the seventh hole.

Ross Townsend won the third.

Trophy donor Cec Pedron obviously found sponsoring the day stressful, going by his lack of points. Thanks for the sponsorship however, Cec.

The Wednesday ambrose attracted 72 starters with another record score winning the day.

Dave Corbet’s team of three suddenly became four when visiting player Scott Telfer from Taree police station joined their team.

This proved a defining moment as they returned a 28 off the stick, (eight under par with two eagles), Scott apparently the difference.

Great score boys and welcome to Wingham Scott.

Second place of the mere mortals was the Kriss team, their score normally good enough for a win.

Third place was Scott Russel’s Team Impact and fourth to Stone Plumbing.

NTP on the third was won by Grant Jobson who also won the cooked chook.

Weekly chook run winners included retired dairy farmer David Andrews, too good for the rest in the SMT event with 23 points and to retired club captain Graham Steel with 22 points in the Thursday event.

The minor places on Thursday were filled by Damian Keen (22 points), third to Rex White and fourth to Sandy Dunn, both on 21 points.

NTPs went to John Hones on the third and to Mark Pedron on the seventh.

Saturday was another hot day and new club captain Wayne Lewis celebrated with his nett 67, way too good for everyone else to win the December Taree Motorama Monthly Mug.

Wayne also won the C-grade MRD Medal, as did Rod Brown in winning A-grade nett and Tony Henwood did likewise with B-grade.

Murray McCartney continued his good run in winning C-grade nett.

Scratch winners on Saturday were Taree visitor Lee Edwards in A-grade, B-grade to Matt Andrews and C-grade to John Hynes. Women’s winner from a field of two was Lesley Steel from Clare Cattell.

Balls went out to 72 on a countback.

Kangaroofing long drive winners for December were Rod Brown (A-grade) Ashley Armstrong (B-grade) and C-grade to Jock Martin.

NTP winners on Saturday were Doug Heywood (Plaza Butchers 1st/10th), Lee Edwards (the Wingham Gourmet Meats 3rd/12th), Mark Fotheringham won the port 4th/13th hole and Andrew McLeod won the Manning Natural Healing 6th/15th hole.

Other great shots came from Bill Osborne to win the Bayview Seafoods NTP on the 7th/16th and Bill Millward did the same to win the Bent on Food voucher for the 9th/18th NTP.

Another annual event was decided on Saturday with the final of the 2008-09 Kangaroofing Long Drive shootout.

Winners were Neil Moore (A-grade), Tony Henwood (B-grade) and C-grade to Gary Masters (who has a bad habit of calling out Elizabeth every time he hits a good drive, needless to say he does not do it very often).

This Saturday is an 18-hole individual stableford with the sheet filling fast.

Good luck and good golfing.
