Irvine and Keen claim Saturday’s trophy

01 Dec, 2009 11:17 AM
Last Saturday, 78 players competed in warm conditions in a 2B aggregate for the Rex White, Allan Weller, Jim Grofos and Norm McKeough trophy.

Some very hot scores were recorded.

Aggregate winners were Dave Irvine and John Keen (83 points), with Dave scoring 45 points and John 38.

Second was Brock Hynes and Nev Webb (78 points), with Brock scoring 40 points and Nev 38.

You had better check your handicaps before you play next! Well done.

The overall stableford winner was Murray McCartney with 45 points.

The A-grade winner was Glenn Thorburn (41 points), B-grade Graeme Troth (38 points) and C-grade Bill Sullivan (42 points c/b).

Runners-up were A-grade Mick Shelley 40 points, B-grade Trevor Martin 37 points c/b, C-grade Wayne Lewis 42 points c/b.

Nearest-the-pin (NTP) winners were 1/10 Plaza Butchery Nev Webb 1.85 metres, 3/12 Geoff Blanch 4m, 4/13 not won, 7/16 Bayview Seafood Trevor Milne 1.94, 1/18 Bent on Food Brendan Walker 1.21. Balls went to 38 points.

Sixty-one veteran players competed for Cec Pedron’s trophy with Ed Buckingham winning on a countback with 66 nett, second Danny Mills 66 nett c/b, third Ian Davy 66 nett c/b.

NTP 3/12 Ross Townsend 1.17, 7/16 Hugh McNamara 1.57.

Wednesday ambrose had 63 players with the winners being Grofos Brickies (Russell Grofos, Andrew Cross and Adam McCann) shooting a brilliant eight under 28 for a 24 1/2 nett.

Second was Young Tigers 26 1/3 nett, third was Middle Aged Tigers 27 nett.

NTP on the third was Ross “4 Iron” Matthews with a great 33cm.

There were 32 players in Thursday’s chook run with the winner being Jim Bradshaw with a great 26 points.

Other winners were Toa Proctor 24 points, Mark Pedron 22 points c/b and Ian Herd 22 points c/b.

NTPs were third Dallas Chapman 1m, seventh Graham Steel 2.82.

The winner of the LJ Hooker umbrella for November was Sandy Dunn with 70 points.

You were lucky, Sandy, that the men’s captain was honest enough to disqualify himself for a wrong score which prevented him from winning.

Well done Steely for being honest and bad luck for not being able to bribe the pro shop girl to fix your card. (Bigger offer next time!)

While the normal Down the Fairway writer is away, I have a chance to say what a great job Graham Steel has done as men’s captain.

He excelled again when about 80 people attended the annual presentation night which was a great night thanks to all the work don by Graham.

It’s all the extra little things he does that makes everything special.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who attended.

A lot of thanks and praise were also given to our special green keeper David Henderson who does a great job along with all the volunteers we have at our club.

Next Saturday is a stroke round for the Taree Motorama monthly mug, MRD, Electrical medals and Kangaroofing long drives.
