FIRST off this week, a big wrap to greenkeeper Dave Henderson and his band of volunteers who have worked above and beyond the call of duty to get the course in top condition for the club championships. Congratulations to all concerned.
The Wednesday veterans certainly enjoyed the conditions and playing a cock-of-the-walk foursomes certainly tested them out. Best of the day was the pairing of David Andrews and Neville Bell with a net 70 from the Ian Morrow/Vince Brassil combination, followed by John Daley/Jim Bradshaw and Wayne Bennett and Alan Hasick.
Another great roll up of players Wednesday afternoon for the ambrose saw the 4 Iron Restaurant team win the day from Manning Smash and the Old Tigers team third. Nearest the pin (NTP) winners were Rod Brown on the third and Mick Murray on the seventh.
With the club championships commencing a big turnout of players in the Thursday scores. Winner of the day was club captain Wayne Lewis, his 24 points beating an unlucky George Legge on a countback. Peter Budden was next on 23 with Mark Pedron then Ken Squires 22, with Jason Fowles, Murray McCartney, Michael and Graham Steel filling the minor places all on 21 points. Rod Brown won the NTP on the third as did Beth Braham on the seventh.
Saturday was the opening round of the 2010 Country Wide Business Solutions/ITP Club championships and a field of 97 players resulted in some unbelievable scoring. Winner of the day was Mal Fuller his net 64 beating former club champion Peter Budden on a countback. Peter did however win A grade net, Geoff Swaffield too good in B grade, as was Graeme Jobson (B1 grade) and Mark Bos produced a bit of form to clean up C grade net. Scratch winners were Rod Brown (A grade), Mark Pedron (B Grade), Peter Kriss (B1 grade) and 10 year old Reid Brown with an 85 off the stick, won C grade.
After round one of the championships, the leaders in each grade are A grade Rod Brown 72, Neil Moore, peter Budden and Geoff Blanch all one shot back on 73, B grade has Mark Pedron on 80 with Andrew Cross, Rowan Abbott, Geoff Swaffield, Greg Foy and Mone Vilayack all on 81.
Graeme Jobson on 83 leads B1 with Peter Kriss, Denis McKeough and Jarrod Harris next on 85. Reid Brown is C grade leader three shots clear of Ron Wilson and Garry Masters both on 89. Great scores all round and should be interesting next week. NTP winners were Mark Bos on the Plaza Butchers 1/10, Rod Brown seems to have a mortgage on the 3/12, Neville Blanch cleaned up the Bayview Seafoods 7/16 hole and Rod Brown again won the Bent on Food 9/18 voucher. Balls went out to net 70. Good luck and good golfing to all players in round two.
