The Wednesday veterans played an 18-hole stableford last week with club vice-president and all round good bloke Mick Woodward winning.
His 42 points beat an unlucky Lionel Fell on a countback.
Form local rugby league referee Neville Forster came in third with 41 points.
Wednesday arvo, 71 keen ambrose golfers played with Brett Moore’s ‘More Or Less’ team too good for everyone else winning from Andrew Cross’s team second, Matty Halliday’s Young Tigers third and the schoolteachers fourth.
Less than one shot covered the first five places and less than two shots the first 12 teams. Pretty close!
Nearest-the-pin (NTP) was won by British import Clare Cattell and she holed the putt.
The Thursday chook run was very popular and Barry Brown emerged from the pack beating Terry Grant on a countback both on 22 points.
John Thorburn came in third from Terry Wood both on 21 points.
Bill Cooper won the NTP on the third and David Blair the seventh.
Rod Brown produced the shot of the day to record an eagle two on the par four ninth hole. Great shot Browny.
Saturday was a scorcher with both temperatures and scores in the mid-40s.
The winner of the 18-hole stableford event for the secretary-manager’s trophy was relatively new player Jason Fowles with an incredible 46 points.
That was Jason’s first win and, with that sort of score, more are sure to follow.
Other good scores came from Barry Brown to win A-grade nett with 41 points, B-grade to Rex White on 44 points and C-grade nett to new player Regan Wollard on 43 points.
Runners-up were Neville Blanch (A-grade, 40 points), Trevor Jones (B-grade) and Brian Roberts (C-grade).
NTP winners were Tony Lattimore on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Richard Dudgeon on the 3rd/12th, David Blair was the lucky winner of the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th hole and Rex White won a cup of coffee from Bent on Food for his lovely bride Joy after winning the NTP on the 9th/18th hole.
The winner of the NTP on the 4th/13th was not at presentation so this jackpots for next week.
A reminder to all junior members that your club championships are set down for December 6 and 13 for both nine- and 18-hole players.
The presentation is on Sunday, December 13.
Next Saturday is an 18-hole individual stableford for the Rex White, Alan Weller, Jimmy Grofos and Norm McKeough trophy with a two-ball in conjunction.
This is a popular event so get your name in early as the sheet fills up quickly these days.
Also, a reminder that the 2009 club presentation night is on this Saturday and already plenty of names are down to attend.
Another popular event, the 2008-09 Kangaroofing Long Drive Shootout is scheduled for about 5pm on Saturday, December 5.
See the club for details.
Good luck and good golfing.
