Rejuvenation of the Hope Andrews Reserve at Mount George is progressing steadily.
The ground, found on Boserio Drive, was deemed unfit to play on last year.
The surface was unlevel, the cricket pitch was breaking up and the field was a popular spot for bike riders or motorists wanting to do burnouts, which churned up the ground.
The Mount George Cricket Club has committed to upgrading the facility and it appointed Cundle Flat resident Mal Fuller as the project manager.
Mr Fuller reports that a new concrete pitch has been installed with an artificial turf glued on it.
The work is being completed on a shoestring budget so the donation from the Manning Valley Cricket Association was appreciated.
The Hope Andrews Mount George Trust also donated some funds, which will be used for fencing.
The work is far from finished, however.
About 700 tonne of fill from a local quarry still needs to be moved in.
Large machinery will be needed for this job and local earthmover Col Hoad has put up his hand to help out.
Top dressing and turfing is still to be completed.
It is hoped the playing field will be complete by the start of the 2010-11 cricket comp.
As well as cricket, the field will be used by Mount George Public School for their sporting endeavours.
Mr Fuller is seeking an old tractor able to pull a six-foot slasher, which would aid in the maintenance of the reserve.
If you know of one that can be used, phone Pam Nipperess on 6550 6148.
The organisers thank Pittwater Concreting and Greater Taree City Council for their assistance in the project.
