A GOOD field of 50 veterans played an individual stableford this past week with Trevor Jones playing the round of his life to record 49 massive points. This is one of the highest individual scores in the history of the club and the magnitude of the score can be further illustrated by the fact second placed Geoff Swaffield was nine shots in arrears. Third placed Garry Stackman also recorded 40 points. Nearest the pins (NTPs) went to Rex White on the 3rd/12th and Neville Bell on the 7th/16th.
Sixty-nine Wednesday afternoon ambrose players played in excellent conditions with Aspect Drafting recording a win from the Schoolies team in second and the Bell team in third. Jeff Reading and Harry Ryder missed a place on the podium this week as their ‘imports’ failed to perform. NTPs went to Dave Irvine on the 3rd and to Phil Chaney on the 7th. The weekly chook run winner this week was John Thurburn with 20 points and the Thursday winner was Shane Clarke with 23 big points. Sandy Dunn and Richard Greenaway with 20 points filled the rest of the placings. Cameron Callow (3rd) and Ken Squires (7th) won the NTPs.
Saturday was the third round of the Country-Wide Business Solutions Club Championships. The day proved a real turning point for a lot of players, both good and bad. In A-grade, former champion Rod Brown blitzed the rest of the field with a fine one over par 73 to establish a nine shot lead. Browny’s score was also good enough for A-grade nett with visitor Steve O’Donoghue winning A-grade scratch with 75. In B-grade, Neville Bell won the nett and Mark Pedron the scratch, good enough for him to have the lead in that grade as well.
In C-grade Terry Grant produced a nett 69 to win the nett and Garry Masters continued his good form to win scratch. Veteran Ron Wilson continued his consistent play to lead C-grade at this stage. In the B1 grade youngster Jarrod Harris also played well to record a 68 nett, good enough to win both the day’s event and also to establish an eleven shot lead in that grade. Well done Jarrod.
Dennis McKeough, much to his surprise, won the B1 nett and Jason Fowles also had a win in the scratch. NTP winners were Geoff Blanch on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Jason Fowles the 3rd/12th, Rex White the 4th/13th and Russ Pattison won the popular Bayview Seafoods voucher on the 7th/16th.
New member Gabriel Miletic produced a good shot to win the Bent on Food 9th/18th voucher. Balls went out to nett 74 on a countback. Good luck to all players next week and don’t forget to play off in the Matchplay Championships.
