 Big week for Chubby

Big week for Chubby

31 Aug, 2010 01:18 PM
WITH the weather and golfing conditions improving dramatically the last few days, a larger than normal number of golfers have hit the course this past week.

The Wednesday veterans attracted a good field and staged a two-ball versus par event and the combination of Barry Jones and Ernie Starling won the day with an incredible plus 13.

Close on their heels was the Peter Tait and Terry Thompson team on plus 12, with Cec Pedron and his partner, Adrian Yeo third with another good score, plus 11. Nearest the pin’s (NTP’s) were claimed by Bill Millward on the 7th/16th and Frank Lawrence on the 3rd/12th.

Thursday was not a great day for golf with very high winds making indoor activities look attractive as opposed to an outside game of golf.

However at least three people made things look simple with 23 points needed for a prize. Winner was Bob ‘Chubby’ Yarnold with 24 points (he had a good marker) and Denise Blanch then carried the torch for the ladies, her 23 points just too good for Daryl Heywood on a countback.

Reid Brown won the NTP on the 3rd and Carol Kohlman did likewise on the 7th.

Saturday attracted a fair field of golfers playing an old fashioned Irish four-ball. Winners on the day, with captain Bob Yarnold continuing his Thursday form, was the team of ‘Chubby’, Gary Croucher, Neville Boyd and Dennis McKeough with 102 points. Second place on 101 points was the Wheeler, Bisby, Brown and Warwick combination followed a point back by the ‘veterans’ team of Christie, Millward, Lawrence and Cusack. Well played boys.

NTP winners included Franz Schubert on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Dallas Chapman won the 3rd/12, Tony Henwood the 4th/13th schooner hole and Bill Osborne claimed they Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th NTP.

Winner of the Bent on Food voucher was Michael ‘Wendell’ Levy with a very close shot.

Next Saturday members play for the September Taree Motorama monthly mug with the MRD Electrical medals and Kangaroofing long drives also on offer.

A big congratulations also this week to Martin Vines and his intrepid band of volunteers for their organisation of the Peter and Helen Ford Ambrose last Sunday.

It was a tremendous day and someone obviously put a lot of work and time to make it such a success.

Well done all.
