 Big day for Browns

Big day for Browns

03 Aug, 2010 01:32 PM
I DON’T know about you but I am sick of this weather, the persistent rain in particular. We definitely could use some wind and sunshine. Anyway, back to the grindstone and another busy week at the golf club with a relatively good field of hardy veterans playing an individual stableford and great to see Ron Irwin back playing and not only playing, but winning the day as well, Ron had 41 points top beat Col Motbey on 40 with Alex Kees third with 39 on a countback. Alex also won the nearest the pin (NTP) on the 3rd/12th and Geoff Swaffield did likewise on the 7th/16th.

Thursday dawned a better day and almost 40 ‘chookrunners’ fought it out for the goodies, Brian Roberts emerging from the pack to win the day with 21 points. Barry Brown obviously enjoyed his little holiday as he also recorded 21 points for the runner up spot. New member Terry Thompson was a little unlucky, his 21 points only giving him third spot. The last voucher went to an incredibly lucky Denise Polley who managed to somehow score 20 points, winning the ‘battle of the sexes challenge’ at the same time over a very unlucky male opponent. The score at this stage however is still in favour of the men ten matches to three, stay tuned for round fourteen next week (if she turns up). NTP winners were Wayne Lewis on the 7th and as usual Rod Brown on the 3rd.

Saturday again saw a wet track and scores reflected such. Dallas Chapman however continued his consistent form to shoot 40 points and win the day. A-grade winner was Jamie Pike with 38 points. Jason Fowles went one better to win B-grade with a score of 39 and Alex Kees fought off a number of challenges in C-grade to win the nett with 36 points on a countback. Scratch winners included Rod Brown in A-grade, his 10 year old son Reid Brown B-grade and John Hynes in C-grade. Balls went out to 35, the lowest score for a while.

NTP winners were Dallas Chapman on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, David Stone the 3rd/12th, Glenn Thorburn got one in really close on the 4th/13th schooner hole, then did the same on the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th. New member Mike Kolbe played a great shot on the last to win the Bent on Food 9th/18th NTP.

The final of the prestigious Mid Coast Bearing knockout was also played on Saturday with Nathan Moore and David Stone winning two-up over the combination of Chris Kane and John Hynes. A big thankyou and congratulations to Cec Russell from Mid Coast Bearings for his very generous and continued sponsorship of this annual event. Well done Cec. This week we have the August Taree Motorama Mug with the MRD Electrical Medals and Kangaroofing Long Drives in conjunction. Good luck and good golfing.
