Asquith beats field of 94

03 Nov, 2009 11:53 AM
A mixed week weather wise resulted in reduces midweek fields but excellent turnouts over the weekend.

Wednesday veterans staged an 18 hole stableford event with Barry Jones and Terry Morris fighting it out for the first two places, both on 38 points. Next came Gary Stackman and John Aldous on 37 points to pick up third and fourth place. Nearest-the-pins (NTPs) went to Bill Osborne on the third and to Graham Troth on the seventh.

The Wednesday ambrose attracted 58 golfers and the winning team was Clare Cattell’s boys/girls team with the superb score of 30, six under par. Second place was the Schoolies team, third to Brad Staff’s team and fourth to the Aspect Drafting team. NTP was won by Mone Vilayrack.

The Thursday chook run was well attended and Mark Fotheringham emerged the winner with the modest score of 19 points on a countback from Mark Pedron third place went to Richard Greenaway and fourth to Ian Her, both with 18 points. The rain certainly took the run out of the course.

Saturday was a superb day with 94 golfers playing for the very prestigious LJ Hooker Wingham Cup. Winner of the overall nett was Nathan Asquith, his 65 nett too good for everyone else. Overall scratch winner was president Neil Moore with his best score for a while, an excellent one over par 73. Great round Neil.

Other major winners included Richard Dudgeon (A grade nett), Gary Croucher (B grade) and Gary Morely (C grade nett) with 69 nett.

Scratch winners were A grade Steve O’Donoghue, B grade to Earl Braham (still in the winners list) and C grade was won by Gary Masters back in the grind. Four women played the winner Clare Cattell from Beth Braham.

NTP winners included Dick Clode (Plaza Butchers 1st/10th) Brian Roberts (the 3rd/12th), the inaugural Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th to Josh Mawby and the 9th/18th Bent on Food voucher to Tony Henwood. The 4th/13th was now won and therefore jackpots again this week. The ladies Champagne hole donated this week by Lesley Steel was won by Clare Cattell. Balls went out to nett 74 on a countback.

This Saturday is the November Taree Monthly mug and is also the fifth and final round of the Oxley Insurance October Stroke trophy. Speaking of that event, it is sure getting competitive with Neil Moore, Terry Grant, Mock Martin and Earle Braham well in contention. Also there are a number of other players who could sneak from the pack with a great round Saturday.

Good luck and good golfing.
