BOWLER extraordinaire, Reid Brown has excelled as a member of the under 13s Mid North Coast cricket team at a carnival played in Ballina in the first week of January.
The five day carnival saw 16 teams from as far south as Manly Warringah and north, Toowoomba in Queensland take part. The carnival involved a round robin for the first three days with teams progressing to pools of four, with winners of the pools then playing again.
The Mid North Coast team reached fifth overall winning four out of five games, narrowly losing their last game by one wicket.
Reid was described by the team manager, Trevor McBride, as “spectacular” making seven wickets for 15 runs in eight overs. He also achieved a hat trick in the last game when he opened as a spin bowler. Reid secured the best bowling average for the entire carnival out of all competitors and received a certificate for Player of the Match. After the game, his team-mates formed a guard of honour as he left the field to celebrate his outstanding bowling achievements. Reid took more than 11 wickets during the carnival.
Reid’s family attended the carnival as spectators with his older sister and State representative cricket player, Maitlan taking on the role of warm up coach, firing up the pace bowlers before the game.
Trevor praised the organisation of the carnival run by the host Ballina Cricket Club saying it was very well run with great weather. Reid was one of only four players in the team to come from the Manning area.
