Pink up stumps

07 Feb, 2012 09:31 AM
BOWLERS will soon be seeing pink as Taree Leagues/ Wherrol Flat United cricket club once again gears up for Pink Stumps day.

The club is one of 1000 cricket clubs nationally to meet registration for the McGrath Foundation fundraiser.

On Saturday February 18, C grade and B grade Taree Leagues/ Wherrol Flat United teams, decked out in pink hats, zinc, stumps and pads, will meet Wingham cricket club on the field in Wingham.

All proceeds from the day will be donated to the McGrath Foundation, to fund McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses in communities right across Australia and increase breast awareness in young women.

The club invites friends and family to wear pink on the day, and is arranging fundraising activities such as lucky door prizes, raffles and auctions. Volunteers will also roam the field with collection tins for donations.

After the games on Saturday, at 7.30pm a fundraiser will be held at Wingham Bowling Club. Entertainment from James Bulley as well as raffles, lucky door prizes and an auction will be sure to make a great night for everyone. Food and drink will also be available on the night.

“Pink stumps day is a great chance for grass roots cricket clubs to support the McGrath foundation,” event organiser, Darren Robinson said.

Last year’s fundraiser was a huge success with the whole community backing the event, raising $5000 for the foundation. A great response was also seen from local businesses donating items to be auctioned and raffled.

This year the club hopes to reach the six to seven thousand dollar mark.

The cricket club is keen to make the fundraiser an annual event after the past success.

“As long as the McGrath Foundation keeps opening up for registrations, we’ll keep putting our hand up,” Darren said.

The club calls for anyone who would like to donate cash or goods to be auctioned or raffled on the night to contact the event organiser Darren Robinson on 0447 328 269 or Gordon Cross 6553 5719.
