WITH the wet weather continuing to raise its ugly head, golfers have found the going difficult.
However players are obviously still keen as fields are still quite good considering.
We start with last Saturday and 53 players played an individual stableford with most scores very high. Best on the day was Ray Matthews with a well compiled 43 big points. Well done Raymond.
It must have been the day for Taree aligned players as well known Tareeite Ken Sheather was next best, his 42 points good enough for A grade net. Other grade net winners were Tony McMaster (also visiting from Taree) in B grade and Frank Lawrence in C grade. Both had 41 points. Runners-up were Ben Marron in A grade with a magnificent four under par 68, David Blair B grade with 39 and Larry Thompson C grade with 39 on a countback. Balls went out to 38 with Barry Brown getting the last one.
NTP winners were Dave Andrews on the Plaza Butchers 1st/10th, Graham Troth the Wingham Remedial Massage 3rd/12th, Mark Pedron the Wingham Pizza and Pasta 6th/15th, Gary Croucher the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th and Dallas Chapman the Bent on Food 9th/18th. Well played lads. Best play of the day went to Ken Sheather who managed to eagle the 14th hole.
Wednesday veterans had a field of 61 players playing off for the Medal of Medals and the winner was a very happy Vince Brassil with a superb 66 net.
Vince won by one shot from Billy Rice and Adrian Yeo, Bill second on a countback.
As well as winning the day Vince also won the ‘Medal of Medals’. Kevin Morris won the 3rd/12th NTP as did Courtney Adamson on the 7th/16th.
Wednesday ambrose players were obviously keen for a game with 48 players turning up despite the weather.
The Schoolies two team emerged the winners from a ‘tight pack’ with Roosters second and the Construction Crew third.
Less than one shot separated the first four teams. The McKeough’s Betta Electrical team also had an enjoyable day, Brian Hanney winning the cooked chook and captain Mick McKeough sharing his bottle of port with many in the club.
Thursday was a miserable day but despite the conditions some good golf was witnessed. Best on the day were Barry Brown and Dave Elliott with 22 points, Barry winning on a count back. Fellow group member Rex White also figured in the prizes winning the NTP on the 3rd with Dallas Chapman taking the 7th.
This week we have the annual McKeough’s Cake Shop trophy sponsored by Dennis McKeough. Also a reminder that the annual general meeting is on this Sunday December 18 starting 10am. This will be followed later in the day with the annual ‘Thank the Volunteers’ Christmas party. Good luck and good golfing.
