WELL, if you thought last week’s report was short then wait for this week.
With the incredible rain over the past few weeks the ground is completely saturated and so any rain at all just stays on top of the surface.
Anyway, despite all this “whinging”, 40 very keen players (some call them desperates) managed to complete 18 holes last Saturday.
With “preferred lies through the green” still the order of the day, some good scores were on display. Best of the day was Brian Roberts, a proven “mud runner”, winning with 41 points.
A grade (0-15 this week because of the small field) winner was Mone Vilayrack with a well compiled 39 points. Good “onya” Mone.
Runner-up was young Ben Heywood with 36 on a countback. B grade (16 plus) was won by Cec Pedron, his 37 just too good for Michael Jones on 36.
NTP winners were also restricted this week with club champion Rod Brown winning the Wingham Remedial Massage 3rd/12th and Brian Roberts completed a great day winning the Bayview Seafoods 7th/16th. Balls went out to 34 points.
Over the next few weeks, weather permitting, there are a number of popular events scheduled. Firstly this Sunday February 12 we have the annual David “Zippy” Steel Memorial golf/bowls day with golf in the morning and bowls in the afternoon. Teams are groups of four and cost is $80 per team. Sheets are in the golf club. This is a great fun day with a great array of prizes on offer for both events, some not necessarily for the best teams. See you there.
In other golf news, the first round of the 2012 Country Wide Business Solutions Club Championships is scheduled for Saturday February 25 and again sheets are in the club. This week, weather permitting, the February Taree Motorama Monthly Mug, MRD Electrical Medals, Kangaroofing Long Drives is on.
Good luck and good golfing.
