All set for Sydney

27 Jul, 2011 02:11 PM
WINGHAM Public School’s open division boys rugby league side have been busily preparing for their upcoming trip to Sydney to compete in the State All Schools Tournament.

The boys, under the guidance of coach Brendan Summerfield, have been training a couple of afternoons a week after progressing through to the all schools competition when they won their division at the locally held Group Three knockout in May.

The squad of 17, all of whom have previous football experience in the Manning competition, will now represent the group three area in the Open B division that takes in schools from all around the state with an enrolment of 200 students or less.

The tournament is being held on August 1 and the boys should get to play at least four games before knowing if they progress through to the finals or not.

Wingham Public School has previously competed at this level on a number of occasions, in both the open division and the juniors.

The boys were all looking forward to getting down to Sydney and testing their skills against students from all over NSW.
