Under 8s

LONG-range goal attempts were the order of the day for the Wingham Signs Wanderers on Saturday. Keegan Hughes made his return after a nasty motor bike accident, keeping goal for the first half and saving some ripper shots from the Taree opposition. Nathan ‘Cockroach’ Smith then took goals for the second and had the crowd cheering with his saves. Jacob ‘Blocker’ Jones had a terrific game when fullback, backed up well by Jordan Darby who ran so hard we all thought his legs were going to drop.

Claire Chapman continues to impress with both her soccer skills and sportsmanship, and Ben Butler-Kwa was to be congratulated also for playing to his position which earned him player of the match. Aaron Smith and Jack Kelly were our goal scorers, both from breaks up the middle finishing with excellent kicks, supported well by Emily Madden who was never too far away. Special thanks to Kim Jones for her fashion advice.

Under 9s Wanderers

GRANTY’S Fruit and Veg Wanderers played Wingham Accounting on Saturday which resulted in a tight 1-1 game. In the first half Lachlan Murphy was loaned over, and he showed great sportsmanship playing for the opposition then ran hard second half for his own team. Second half was Mya Brown’s turn to give the other team a hand. First half she was on fire, booting the leather off the ball. Jordan Goodman scrapped for the ball all game. Alex Davidson was our goal scorer for the game.

Andrew Nielsen did a superb job in the backs this week, controlling and trapping the ball and booting it when needed. Nash McPherson was in the thick of the action all game, using his quick pace to cover the field. Athena Adams played her heart out. She was that close to scoring a few goals first half. Billy McIntyre again did a tremendous job in goals. He has learnt how to dive quickly to get the ball. Dad Paul says he has taught him everything he knows from watching the Brazilians play!

Well done kids. Great game.

Under 9s Warriors

AFTER two weeks of games being washed out, the under 9 Wingham Accounting Warriors returned to the field to meet their mates the Wingham Wanderers. Parents waited to see if their kids still knew how to play but their worries were unfounded as this game was one of our best this season. With great support from all parents both teams played a friendly and competitive game.

Was the 1-1 result prearranged by the kids to ensure that the township of Wingham remained the happy little place we all love?

Jakeal Anderson and Sam Diehm played superbly in defence, with kicks that defied their size. Chloe Sowter showed great determination stopping the Wanderers charge on several occasions. Blade Soars cemented his role as our number one mid fielder, feeding the ball through to the forward line for their countless goal attempts.

David Diehm attempted several high shots but was unlucky not to find the net, however Jesse Googh was more successful to score our only goal.

Thanks to Mia Brown and Lachlan Murphy from the Wanderers who helped us replacing our sick team mate. It was great to see parents cheering on players from both teams and creating such a positive atmosphere for our kids to learn soccer.

Under 15s

IT was such a windy day for Saturday’s game at Old Bar. The under 15s Wingham Family Health Clinic Warriors played a terrific game against Old Bar Barbarians, but unfortunately the wind was definitely against us and Old Bar scored five of their goals early in the game. There was some great passing from Liam Wespi and Reanna McKellar and a couple of good attempts for a goal from Shane Cross and Andrew Clark. Well done Olivia Mudie, Anna Mitchell and Cian Stevens who are always consistent. Congratulations to Liam Wespi who was awarded player of the match and a big thank you again to our team sponsor.

Sunday saw the U15s take a while to wake up, but in the second half they played extremely well. Mathew Zielke played in goals for the first half and Dylan McCormack was goalie for the second. Mathew Zielke was our only goal scorer for the day even though Liam Wespi, Andrew Clark, Zachary Rayson and Shane Cross all had some great attempts to score in the second half, but unfortunately they just didn’t quite get the ball over the line. Dylan McCormack and Callam Smith did a great job stopping the opposition scoring while Andrew Clark and Shane Cross did some wonderful attacking. Well done to you all Wingham, it was a great team effort. Thank you to Rob Wespi too for filling in as coach today.
