Under 7 Wanderers
WHAT a fantastic game was had by the Valley Veterinary Wanderers for the last game of the 2010 season! Playing the Tinonee Eagles, we had two goals scored by Alan Graham. Jackson Brody had a fantastic defensive game. Cale McPherson intercepted a few goal attempts and Kathryn Deal ran the ball well all game, showing off the skills she has learnt this season. Elanor Deal had a great attempt at goals. Coach Brad McPherson is very proud of the whole team, as this was their best game of the season. Well done Wanderers!
Under 7 Raiders
WITH the sun shining the Wingham U7s Raiders enjoyed their last official game of the season against the Tinonee Falcons.
The Falcons were the first to score and the confidence of the Raiders seemed to waiver momentarily before the boys again found their form and showed how well they can play when they work together. All of the boys played well and enjoyed the game. The team are looking forward to the gala day next Sunday. A big thanks to all of the dedicated parents, family and friends for their support and encouragement, ensuring the boys got the most out of their first season of soccer, hopefully with many more to come.
Under 8s
MATE vs mate was the way the official season finished for the Wingham Sign Wanderers when they faced the Warriors at home on Saturday.
Player of the match went to Jordan Darby for his commitment and determination in his first season. Jacob Jones again ran strongly, and would be our most improved player for the year. Aaron Smith has grown in maturity and confidence, scoring one of our goals and developing into one of the leaders of the side, while Clare Chapman would earn the coach's player every week for her commitment and unselfish positional play each game. Her fullback defence on Saturday was just fantastic. Ben Butler-Kwa came into the team late in the season, but picked up the game well and was by far our best marker, while Jack Kelly was our best tackler always going for the ball time after time after time. Our star in attack was Keegan Hughes. He has a running game that was forever exciting and was the team's leading goal scorer for the year. Emily Madden, once she got wound up, was always difficult to stop. She was a great listener and will go far in soccer. Nathan Smith, although playing up for his age, mixed well and has a great sense for the game. Every kid shines in their own way. We had a great season.
Under 9 Wanderers
THE under 9 Grantys Fruit and Veg Wanderers played Taree on Saturday, and all I can say is wow! The last game of the season was unbelievable. The kids held their positions throughout the whole game and played as a team. Every kid had an amazing attempt at goals, and showed off their improved footwork. Congratulations Athena Adams, Mya Brown, Alex Davidson, Jordan Goodman, Billy McIntyre, Nash McPherson, Lachlan Murphy and Andrew Nielsen for providing us parents and spectators with a brilliant game. After the game the kids all went to McDonalds, after receiving their much deserved vouchers.
Under 9 Warriors
THE last game of the season saw the under 9 Wingham Accounting Warriors pitted against the Taree Jaguars. Each member of the team saw this as their last chance to shine. With our coach Rick on hand to give guidance, the players took the opportunity to show him that all his hard work had paid off. Chloe Sowter showed us that extra training in Temora had focused on her mighty left kick. Blade soared in the midfield and stayed upright throughout the game. Sam Diehm took to the field despite his overnight illness, he still had enough energy to clear the ball from danger and even came forward for an attempt at goal. Jesse Googh played with great determination and was extremely unlucky to have his goal shot come off the goal crossbar. David Diehm taking his role of captain with great seriousness led by example and scored several great goals. Jade Clarke showed the power of the green star facial tattoo, this along with her feisty play and determination resulted in her scoring a great goal. A 4-0 win to end the season. Special thanks to Matt Lucky who help us out in goals today. A great season which only came about though the enthusiasm of seven kids, countless parents and grandparents. A huge thankyou to coach Ricky Holden, and manager Cindy Googh.
