B-grade win a thriller
WINGHAM’S B-grade cricket side scored a thrilling 1-wicket win over Taree West at the weekend.
Taree West batted first and struggled to get going thanks to some great bowling and fielding from the young Wingham line up. West could only manage 115 with Luke McLeod top scoring with 20. Adam Carney 4/12 and Geordan Smith 2/13 returned the best figures for the Wingham bowlers.
Wingham got their run chase off to a poor start losing their first 5 wickets for just 25 runs, with Tim Tindal taking all five wickets. Jackson Mullen and Mitch Barnett put on 49 runs for the 6th wicket before Paul McLeod bowled Mullen for 13. Barnett was soon back in the sheds himself after scoring a game high 38 and when Carney was dismissed for 7, Wingham found themselves in a precarious position at 8/89. Ross McRoberts and Dean Whitlam, through some great running between the wickets got the Wingham total to 113 before Paul McLeod had McRoberts caught for 7.
With just three runs for victory and only four balls remaining, Geordan Smith (2) and Dean Whitlam (19) got Wingham over the line with one ball to spare.
