Wingham secured a comfortable outright win against Taree West confirming the club’s top spot on the A-grade ladder.
Taree West resumed day two of the encounter trailing by 113 runs with only two wickets in hand to gain first innings points.
Brad Mitchell added four runs to his total before David Rees bowled the number seven batter for an innings top score of 28.
Rees soon after had Gary Pomplun caught at second slip by Brad Schubert for six leaving West all out for 75 trailing Wingham by 107.
David Rees finished the first innings with figures of eight for 20 from 8.5 overs.
Wayne Smoothy quickly enforced the follow on, sending West back in for its second innings.
Craig Kerwin and Jeremy Dack made 14 for the first wicket before Russell Laing had Kerwin (7) caught behind by Ben Cole.
With the score on 26, Trevor Bailey had Jordan Lee caught and bowled for four, but this brought Nick Walker to the crease and he and Dack started to push the visitors’ score along to 54 until Bailey struck again, trapping Walker in front for 22.
The wickets then started to flow for Wingham with David Rees dismissing Brad Mitchell for four and Jamie Hartland had Lee Crozier adjudged LBW for 10.
Hartland was in sparking form; the young quick bowled Peter Crossman for a duck and then had Justin Boyd LBW the very next ball.
One run later Hartland claimed is fourth wicket of the innings when he once again got an LBW decision, this time against opening batter Jeremy Dack (27).
Nathan Fuller (4) was bowled by Bailey, still needing another 23 runs to pass Wingham’s first innings total.
Gary Pomplun and Brian Levi frustrated the Wingham bowlers and in the 45th over Taree West moved the total to 108, requiring Wingham to bat again. Russell Laing had Pomplun caught by Michael Rees for 18 leaving Levi not out seven and Wingham a total of three to chase for victory.
Jamie Hartland (4/11), Trevor Bailey (3/26), Russell Laing (2/11) and David Rees (1/37) were the wicket takers for Wingham.
The game was over in a flash when Tim Rees smashed the first delivery of Wingham’s second innings to the boundary, handing the team a 10-wicket outright victory.
Wingham holds onto the top spot in A-grade along with Cundletown.
Wingham now plays Forster at Cedar Party Creek Reserve, with Taree Leagues playing Taree West at Johnny Martin Oval.
