The Wingham B-grade cricket side secured second spot heading into next week’s finals series with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Wherrol Flat at Wingham Central Park.
Batting first, Wherrol Flat struggled to get going on a normally batsman-friendly ground and could only manage 138 before being bowled out. Veteran Mark Blanch top scored for the Flat with 42.
Hayden Morris 4/17, James Orrock 3/31, Corey Muxlow 2/9 and Dean Whitlam 1/11 were the wicket takers for Wingham.
Wingham started off poorly with Jackson Mullen bowled by Marcus Blanch with the second ball of the innings.
An 85-run second wicket partnership by Mitch Barnett and Adam Carney saw the Wingham innings in good stead.
The pair weren’t going slow about accumulating their runs either.
Barnett made 69 before being caught by Brock Hynes off the bowling of Mark Boyd.
Scott Williams, unfortunately didn’t get to trouble the scorers and when Carney was removed by Mark Blanch for 31, Wingham were at a comfortable 4/118 in just the 12th over.
Tim Rees made 3 before being dismissed by Mark Blanch which then left Aaron Watson (15) and Hayden Morris (8) to bring up the winning runs in the 18th over.
Wingham will now play first placed Hallidays Point in this weekend’s semi final action.
